Canadian High School Girls Basketball Team from Scarborough Makes History, Wins Grind Session World Championship

Royal Crown School is the first Canadian high school team (girls or boys) to ever win a World Championship Title!

Royal Crown School has the largest high school program in Canada with over 120 students between the ages of 12 - 19. The program has 10 teams (5 girls and 5 boys teams) of student athletes that range between grade 7 to 12.

An international private school based out of Scarborough, Ontario Canada, Royal Crown School boasts some of the future WNBA and NBA players in the country. Currently, the program includes over 30+ National Team ID players from across the world, with student athletes hailing from as far as Australia, Slovenia, and China as well as various places in the United States and provinces such as Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.  

In recent years the girls basketball program at Royal Crown has seen unprecedented success in the Canadian basketball landscape. The Middle School girls team at Royal Crown (Grade 7 and 8) have never lost a game since the program started  3 years ago. 

 

The Junior Girls "Junior Varsity" (Grade 9 and Grade 10) Royal Crown has 3 consecutive Ontario high school championships while competing against other top ranked players and teams in the premier Canadian basketball league, the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA). The JV program has 7 Canada Basketball Junior Academy  athletes, the most of any program across Canada.

Royal Crown has solidified itself as the premier destination for elite level youth prospects residing in Canada. We pride ourselves of not just developing skills of our athletes while prioritizing a standard of academic excellence where players must maintain an 80% or better average to practice or play.

On Sunday March 23rd, 2025 the #6 seeded Royal Crown Senior Girls team beat the undefeated #1 ranked DME Academy in the 2025 Grind Session World Championship game. The win represents the first time a Canadian team- men or women's- has won a World Championship Title. 

Leading the way for Royal Crown School was Team Canada Forward Yohana Fami who was named Game MVP in the Championship Game.  Royal Crown's Sr Girls roster boasts 4 former Canadian National Team members and currently has 5 NCAA Division 1 signed athletes.
