King's 75 (12-4) def. Southwest 64 (6-10)

Early on shots weren’t falling on either side, but it was King’s post anchor (6-3 F, 2018) Christina Morra who was able to take advantage of early second chances. Southwest scored three straight to retake the lead midway through the quarter. A basket plus the foul for (6-1 F, 2021) Teah Stupar fresh off the bench put King’s back in the lead and another finish inside gave the Grade Nine student five quick points. Both teams picked up the ball movement close to the end of the quarter capped by consecutive threes by (6-0 G, 2018) Laura Donovan to give the visiting Southwest a 19-15 lead after one quarter.

Donovan started the second quarter where she left off splashing another three and Morra continued to be a presence with a basket then a block at the other end as the game sped up through the middle of the second with some blistering end to end action. Southwest is without one of their main contributors (5-8 G, 2019) Piper Doo who was selected to the Basketball Without Borders international camp put on by the NBA and FIBA in Los Angeles. A buzzer beater two at the half by (5-5 G, 2019) Yasmine Ahl Lamara gave King’s the 31-28 halftime advantage.

King’s put the pressure on coming out of the locker room and opened a nine point advantage before the Southwest bench shot their team back into the game, and eventually took the lead after a long bomb by (5-10 G, 2019) Maggie Denys. Southwest entered the final frame up a single point 49-48. King’s maintained their three-quarter court defensive pressure and forced Southwest into some key stops in the fourth while the score remained close until a three from (6-0 G, 2018) Lauren Boers gave King’s a seven-point advantage. A few tough missed threes by Southwest over the final stretch put them down for good as King’s won 75-64.
