Lincoln Prep (3-3) take down King's Christian (1-5)

LINCOLN PREP 90 def. KING'S CHRISTIAN 88

Both the Lincoln Prep Huskies and King’s Christian Collegiate entered this OSBA Game of the Week matchup trying to keep themselves in the playoff hunt - Lincoln trying to reach .500, and King’s to turn their early season struggles around.

Lincoln used transition baskets and free throws to take an early advantage, but King’s kept the first quarter close. 6’10 F Lincoln Rosebush (class of 2018) was on top of his game early as he provided an array of scoring for the Huskies in the first quarter, giving them a five-point lead going into the second despite 6’7 F Coleman Stucke’s (2020) strong early performance on both ends of the floor for King’s.

King’s came into the second quarter focused, stealing the ball on consecutive possessions and forcing the Huskies to use an early timeout. The story of the second quarter was 6’5 G Luka Sakota’s (2020) control on the offensive end for King’s Christian as he scored 11 of his game high 35 points in the frame to keep his team close trimming the deficit to just four, 49-45 at the half.

King’s again began the quarter on a run giving them a one-point lead early in the second half thanks to both Sakota and 6’9 F Sam Thomson. Second-chance opportunities were the story for Lincoln Prep in the third as they rebounded well on both ends of the floor and Rosebush put on an offensive clinic in the post with 10 of his 21 points coming in the third. Despite Sakota’s strong offensive showcase in the 2nd and 3rd, Lincoln’s ability to hit shots around the zone defence allowed them to remain ahead on the road heading into the final quarter of the game.

Fatigue was not a factor for King’s Sakota and Stucke as they sparked their team to the lead with seven minutes remaining after trailing for almost the entire game. 6’2 PG Josh Noton (2019) was a huge factor for Lincoln Prep late in the fourth quarter with timely steals, key rebounds over bigger players, finished highly contested layups, and found his teammates for transition three-pointers that helped his Huskies gain back the momentum. Then it was 6’5 G Tyler Sagl’s shooting behind the three-point line that extended Lincoln Prep’s lead to seven with just under two minutes to play in the game.

Luka Sakota’s dominance continued late in the game as he managed to score a tough lay-up in the key with 25 seconds left, evening the game at 88-88, but on the last possession of the game for the Lincoln Prep Huskies, it was Josh Noton’s ability to penetrate into the key and find 6’4 F Tyson Kato for the go-ahead, and-one play that pushed the Huskies past King’s in a wire-to- wire game, helping Lincoln steal one on the road and move back to .500 on the season.
