OSBA PRE-SEASON PREVIEW: CALEDON BASKETBALL ACADEMY

Hailing from Bolton, Caledon Basketball Academy enters their inaugural season hoping to make an immediate impact on the OSBA women’s division and represent the uprising of female basketball in Canada.

“We look forward to contributing to the league's growth and to elite women's basketball in Ontario.  The OSBA has provided an outstanding athlete-centered model completed by superb technical and strategic leadership marking a significant paradigm shift in elite-level basketball in Canada,” head coach Gordon Everett said.

In preparation for the program’s inaugural season, coach Everett and his staff have been building a competitive roster compiled starting with the solid foundation of Humberview Secondary School’s women’s team who went undefeated in winning the ROPSSAA high school division this past season. Members from the Humberview team who are now a part of the Caledon program also managed to win a Tier I championship in 2016-2017, and represented Peel Region at OFSAA’s AAA Championship. Key players from Humberview’s impressive undefeated season who have agreed to Join Caledon Basketball Academy include class of 2019 Victoria Colp (5’8 G) who is versatile and has a high basketball IQ, class of 2018 Andrea Dodig (5’9 G) a Canada Basketball TAS and Team Ontario U17 athlete who is an excellent defender and competitor, class of 2019 Isabella Belvedere (5’7 G) who has 2016 Team Ontario U15 experience and is a versatile scorer with the ability to either shoot the ball from long distance or get to the basket consistently.

Aside from bringing in talent from the competitive Humberview Secondary School team, the program landed a mixture of transfers and rookies with notable basketball track records. Key additions include; Class of 2020 Lauren Foullong (5’9 G) is an excellent shooter and was a Team Ontario U15 member this summer, Class of 2021 Izabella Zingaro (6'3 C) is a post player who adds much needed paint presence to the program and was also a member of U15 Team Ontario this summer. Last but not least Caledon welcomes Class of 2018 Emma Jackson (5'6 G), a transfer from Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie who has an excellent shooting touch from the perimeter who will help the team space the floor.

The program is excited and honored to be a part of the well-established OSBA league. With added depth and some size from key transfers and rookies, Caledon Basketball Academy is looking to prove that their balanced offensive capabilities alongside their aggressive style of up-tempo pressure defense will allow them to compete with the best teams in the league.
