King’s Christian Collegiate sophomore Amihere to travel to Europe for exhibition tournament with Senior Women’s National Team.

On May 23, Canada Basketball announced its roster for an exhibition tournament taking place in Spain and France. Twelve athletes were selected to represent the nation in this tournament as Canada continues to prepare for Tokyo 2020. One of the athletes selected to this roster was the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association’s (OSBA) very own, Laeticia Amihere.

At only 15 years of age, Amihere is the youngest athlete to be selected to the Senior Women’s National Team. Amihere is a 6’3 forward from Mississauga. Last season as a sophomore at King’s Christian Collegiate,  Amihere was the OSBA League MVP and a First-Team All-Star.

Amihere is currently ranked second in the class of 2019 by ESPN. She continues to gain attention and climb recruiting rankings after a successful OSBA season and a very exciting start to the summer. During a tournament in Virginia as a member of Team Ontario in April, Amihere stole the ball, knocked it forward and threw down a monstrous slam. The video of the dunk has since gone viral, receiving attention from a variety of media sources including Bleacher Report, ESPN’s The Undefeated and USA Today, who called it potentially the most powerful dunk by a woman ever.

After Amihere's debut with the Senior Women’s National Team in Spain on May 26, Canada will play a second game in Spain before traveling to France for a three-game tournament. To keep up to date with Amihere and the Senior Women’s National Team, visit the Canada Basketball website.
