Following the successful launch of the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) men’s league in 2015 and women’s league in 2016, Ontario Basketball (OBA) is pleased to announce that it will accept applications from new programs for the 2017-18 season.

“OSBA provides sport schools and academies with proper periodized training, development and competition models for high performance athletes,” explained Lindsay Walsh, Ontario Basketball's Director of Basketball Development. “We are excited to continue to grow the league and build on the success that has been established so far.”

Comprehensive proposals from interested programs will be accepted until Friday, March 10, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. Interested applicants must contact the applicable OSBA Commissioner, as outlined below, to receive an application.

Carmelo Mallia, Commissioner (Men’s)

Linh Nguyen, Commissioner (Women’s)

The men’s league grew from the first season to the second, from seven teams to the following 11 programs: Athlete Institute Prep (Orangeville), Bill Crothers (Markham), Father Henry Carr (Etobicoke), King’s Christian Collegiate (Oakville), Lincoln Prep (Hamilton), Orangeville Prep (Orangeville), Ridley College (St. Catharines), Southwest Academy (London), Thornlea Secondary School (Thornhill), TRC Academy (Brantford), and Vaughan Secondary School (Vaughan).

Eight teams are currently competing in the inaugural season of the women’s league: Bill Crothers (Markham), Durham Elite (Whitby), Guelph Prep (Guelph), King’s Christian Collegiate (Oakville), Lincoln Prep (Hamilton), Louis Riel (Ottawa), Southwest Academy (London), and TRC Academy (Brantford).

The vision of OSBA is to identify, develop, and support targeted Ontario basketball teams and athletes to achieve the goal of developing Ontario athletes for post-secondary, national, and international competition. In addition, this elite league will help increase the number and quality of Ontario athletes competing in the province at the Train to Compete stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development Model. Ultimately, the goal of the league is to provide elite level competition and exposure to premier high school basketball athletes and in turn raise the entire basketball environment in Ontario and Canada.
