In partnership with Henry Street High School and the Abilities Centre, both located in Whitby, Durham Elite is ready to hit the courts. Coached by Ontario Basketball’s U17 Head Coach, Christa Eniojukan, Durham Elite has decided to join the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association, “Working with elite female basketball players for numerous years, it is extremely exciting to finally have a league in which teams can properly periodize the players training and completion phases.”

Looking to develop players within the Durham Region, coach Eniojukan has brought along a superstar coaching staff consisting of Cienna Walker originally an Ajax native who played for the University of Minnesota, and Erica Gavel, Saskatoon native, who plays for Canada’s wheelchair basketball team. Together these three have takin on the responsibility of Durham Elite in hopes to pass down their knowledge.

Along with developing female athletes within the Durham Region, coach Eniojukan has managed to get some of Ontario’s finest female athletes with the majority of her team being Team Ontario Alumni. Shaina Pellington, Keishana Washington, Kylee O’Hara, Julia Chadwick and Tiarra Davis were all previously coached by Eniojukan at the U17 National Championships, where the team won Gold.

Daija Moses will also be playing with Durham Elite, the 5’11 small forward will be going into her final year of high school basketball put still has a lot to prove. Eniojukan explains that Moses’ versatility on the court and her defensive pressure are her strengths on the court.

With Ontario starting to develop more preparatory schools, coach Eniojukan presumes that the growing prep league model is attracting more international students, as well as fellow Canadians. Within the next five years, she believes that Canada will be a consistent medal contender internationally at all age groups.
