This week’s GOTW action featured exciting games across all divisions. Brampton City Prep took care of business against Victory Academy, while Crestwood Prep handed Royal Crown its first loss in Men’s OSBA action. To cap off the week, King’s Christian secured a big home win against Orangeville Prep in the Women’s OSBA West Division.
Brampton City Prep (National) kicked off the Game of the Week schedule with a commanding 94-77 win over Victory Academy. Brampton’s offence dominated, consistently getting to the basket and building an early lead that Victory Academy couldn’t overcome.
Brampton City Prep (National) is riding a three-game winning streak, with its offence averaging an impressive 98.3 points per game during that span. The team remains ranked No. 1 in the West Division and is a championship favourite as the season heads down the stretch. Victory Academy struggled defensively but will have a chance to rebound next week against Excel Hoops Prep.
Crestwood Prep upset Royal Crown, 80-73, handing the Lions their first loss of the season. Crestwood overcame a 15-point deficit in the second half, and their ability to minimize mistakes down the stretch proved to be the deciding factor in the victory.
Crestwood, now 3-3 and ranked No. 4 in the East, has proven its ability to compete with top teams in the division—a valuable asset come playoff time. Despite the loss, Royal Crown remains a championship favourite with a 7-1 record and the No. 1 ranking.
In a rematch of their December battle, where Orangeville secured a narrow two-point victory, King’s Christian dominated this time with an 82-62 win. King’s Christian got off to a hot start and built a commanding lead that proved decisive, as Orangeville’s late surge came too late to mount a comeback.
King’s Christian standout Carletta Bennett reflected on her team’s ability to avenge their previous loss to Orangeville, saying, “We played more together and we were getting better shots… we took that loss really hard and we had been working really hard to bounce back from it”.
King’s Christian, now 5-3 and ranked No. 3 in the West, seems to be finding its rhythm as a team at the right time. Meanwhile, Orangeville Prep, sitting at 4-3, faces a tough matchup in their next game against St. Jude’s Academy.
