A Weekend of Dominance and Growth in Women’s Basketball

This weekend’s GOTW action brought thrilling battles and showcased the competitive spirit of women’s basketball. Capital Courts Academy and Crestwood Prep proved why they are at the top of their divisions, while J. Addison and St. Jude’s Academy showcased grit and determination.

J. Addison vs. Capital Courts Academy (CCA)

Date: Friday, December 6, 2024
Division: Women’s East
Final Score: CCA 68, J. Addison 36

Capital Courts Academy solidified their dominance with an impressive 68-36 win over J. Addison. The victory extended CCA’s undefeated streak to 6-0, earning them the top spot in the East Division standings. Capital Courts fast pace and elite caliber talent proved too much for J. Addison, despite a strong effort. Though the home team came out strong, they ultimately couldn’t match the intensity of the now No. 1 ranked CCA squad.

Top Performers:

  • CCA: Patricia Augustin led the charge with 15 points, while teammates Rachael Okokoh and Megan Hollingsworth contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
  • J. Addison: Abriel Grant-Caracas stood out with 12 points, while Kiran Brar and Amiya Moses added 10 each.

Team Records & Rankings:

  • CCA entered the game ranked No. 2 in the East with a 4-0 record and leaves the weekend undefeated at 6-0, now ranked No. 1.
  • J. Addison, ranked No. 3, drops to 4-2 after losses to CCA and Royal Crown.

Coach Fabienne of CCA emphasized the importance of growth, stating, “The goal is to get 2% better every day and to have fun with the game too because once you get to the next level, you forget to enjoy the little things.”

As the winter break approaches, J. Addison, now ranked No. 3 in the East, will look to refocus and build on their strengths for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, CCA and Royal Crown remain top contenders for the OSBA Championship.

Crestwood Prep vs. St. Jude’s Academy

Date: Saturday, December 7, 2024
Division: Women’s West
Final Score: Crestwood Prep 72, St. Jude’s Academy 55

Crestwood Prep continued their undefeated streak with a hard-fought 72-55 victory over St. Jude’s Academy. Both teams entered the game without a loss, but Crestwood’s ability to adjust in-game proved to be the difference-maker.

Top Performers:

  • Crestwood Prep: Avery Arije was unstoppable, dropping 20 points for Crestwood. Stella Evens added 19 points, including five clutch three-pointers, to help secure the win.
  • St. Jude’s Academy: National team member Chanté Murray matching Arije’s effort with 20 points of her own. Stephanie Galikowski also contributed 14 points in a valiant effort to keep her team in contention.

Team Records & Rankings:

  • Crestwood Prep, previously ranked No. 2 in the West, climbs to 6-0 and takes the No. 1 spot.
  • St. Jude’s Academy falls to 4-1 but retains their No. 4 ranking.

Crestwood’s Coach Marlo reflected on the team’s growth, saying, “Having a new group, there’s a lot of new faces. I thought they got off to a great start, and we’re starting to find our stride. The room for us to get better is still very high, and the growth of the team has been super exciting to watch.”

Crestwood, now 6-0 and ranked No. 1 in the West, has established itself as a championship favorite and is on the hunt for a three-peat. St. Jude’s Academy remains in the top four with a 4-1 record, showing promise as the season progresses.
