Royal Crown vs. Bill Crothers: Doubleheader Showdown and OSBA Game of the Week

Basketball fans are in for a treat as Scarborough will be the center of attention tonight, November 5, as Royal Crown hosts the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Game of the Week. The spotlight is on the Royal Crown and Bill Crothers Secondary School (BCC) national teams as they go head-to-head in a thrilling doubleheader.  The girls’ game is set to tip off at 5 p.m., followed by boys’ action at 7 p.m., promising for an evening full of elite basketball action.

Royal Crown Girls Team: Big Talent, Big Impact

The Royal Crown girls come into tonight’s game with a 1-1 record and a No. 5 ranking, fresh off a thrilling win at the Chris Smalling Tournament, where they beat CCA with a last-second shot by Chance Berry. The 5’9” guard is no stranger to high-stakes games; she’s got national team experience and recently played with Canada’s U17 team at the FIBA World Cup.

In the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup, she averaged 9.8 points and had three games in double figures, including a 14-point performance against Argentina.

Joining Berry in tonight’s battle adding to this stacked lineup are her teammates Yohana Fami and Divine Tumba, both with Team Canada playing experience. Fami put up solid numbers at the 2024 FIBA World Cup, including a strong opener against Spain with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Tumba, a 6’3” forward originally from Longueuil, QC, has been a force with Canada’s U18 team, putting up a series-high 16 points against the Dominican Republic.

On the other side, the BCC girls’ team is 1-2 but currently ranked No. 2 in the league. They’re led by seasoned seniors Mikayla Williams, Katerina Pappas, and Nina Visnjevac, who bring strong leadership and playmaking abilities. Royal Crown will need to stay sharp against a team that’s played tough matchups this season and is hungry for a win.

Royal Crown Boys Team: Strong Players Backed by National Experience

The Royal Crown boys are off to an undefeated 3-0 start and will look to keep their streak alive tonight. Leading them is Justus Haseley, a 6’2” guard from Scarborough, who has played with both the Overtime Elite’s City Reapers and YNG Dreamers. Haseley has a knack for big games, averaging 15 points in OTE and playing solid minutes with the national squad. Known for his scoring ability, Hassley also put up strong numbers with Canada’s U18 team averaging 8.2 points, 4.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.7 rebounds this summer.

Joining him is Kymani Walters, a 6’1” combo guard returning from OTE’s DME Academy in the U.S., ready to make an impact tonight with his versatility and ability to control the pace.

Meanwhile, the BCC boys are 1-1 and will lean on the aggressive play of Jacob McGregor. Known for setting the tone with his intensity and consistent scoring, McGregor has been a key player for BCC so far this season. Royal Crown’s defense will have to be on point to keep him from getting hot from beyond the arc.

OSBA Game of the Week

With their recent tournament win and a roster loaded with national team experience, Royal Crown is set to defend their home court in tonight’s OSBA Game of the Week doubleheader. Expect the energy in the gym to be electric as these teams battle it out in an intense night of high school hoops!
