New Year Showdown: Lincoln Prep Takes on Hodan Nalayeh in a Battle for West Division Bragging Rights

Thursday, January 9, 2025

The OSBA Game of the Week (GOTW) is back and headed to Hamilton this afternoon as Lincoln Prep squares off against Hodan Nalayeh Secondary School. It’s the first GOTW of 2025, and both teams are ready to leave it all on the court. With playoff positioning and mid-season momentum on the line, fans can expect an electric showdown.

Lincoln Prep vs. Hodan Nalayeh S.S.

  • Tip-Off: Thursday, January 9th at 4:00 p.m. EST
  • Location: F.H. Sherman Recreation and Learning Centre, Hamilton
  • Division: Men’s West Division

HODAN NALAYEH S.S

Hodan Nalayeh (2-1) comes into this game ranked second in the West Division, trailing only Ridley College (4-1). After a two-month break from league play, they’ll look to shake off the rust and reclaim their dominance. Their last game, a nail-biting 74-71 loss to Bill Crothers S.S., showcased their grit, and they’re hungry for redemption.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH:
  • Saad Chaudhry: The defensive anchor - ranked No.2 in the league for blocks, averaging 2.7 per game.
  • Dante Censori-Hercules: A do-it-all star and versatile contributor, ranking No.3 in steals (2.7) and No.2 in assists (6.7). He also ties for No.1 in rebounds (10.3).
  • Ian McBride: A rebounding machine - Sharing the rebounding lead with 10.3 per game.
  • Daunte Jones: A two-way playmaker ranked No.6 in steals (2.3) and No.11 in points (14.7).

Hodan’s ability to control the glass and lock down on defense will be key to them securing a win.

LINCOLN PREP

Lincoln Prep enters the matchup ranked fourth in the West Division, but don’t let their 2-3 record fool you—they’ve faced stiff competition all season. Their pre-holiday loss to Bill Crothers S.S. (77-67) exposed areas for improvement but also highlighted their potential. They’ll need to rely on their leaders to take down a tough Hodan squad.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH:
  • Owen Frayne: The league’s assist king, leading the OSBA with an impressive 7.6 dimes per game.
  • Nate Stoddart: A presence in the paint, ranked no.9 in the league for blocks (1.4 per game)

Lincoln Prep’s ability to move the ball and convert in transition could tip the scales in their favor in tonight’s trilling GOTW match-up.

This is what OSBA basketball is all about—two teams with something to prove, big-time talent on display, and the energy of a fresh season. Hodan’s grit meets Lincoln’s determination in a game that could set the tone for the rest of the year.
