Head coach of the Southwest Furfaro girls, Rob Angione, and his team will competing in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association’s in its inaugural season of girls basketball. Located in London, Angione is thrilled to be able to offer his team the opportunity to participate in a true holistic high performance training, development and competition league.

With eight of the 12 girls on the team being in grades 10 and 11, Angione was concerned with how useful his team is, “We may be young but we are extremely hungry to put in the work and explore the wealth of opportunity and experience that the OSBA provides.” Angione also explains that this year he’s looking forward to having 12 athletes that all have the similar goal and working with them individually as well as a team to add onto their knowledge of basketball on and off the court.

As a reputable coach working with high performance athletes for several year, Angione has seen firsthand what sacrifices, demands and impact it has on kids’ daily lives. “Being torn in many directions, jumping from one team training to the next is too exhausting for any person,” says Angione, “The individualized holistic development was not able to be addressed on a consistent or detailed level.”

OSBA has recreated a platform which allows athletes to carry out what it means to be a student athlete by providing them a set curriculum, support and guidance. “Being a member of the OSBA gives us access to tremendous resources and support systems such as coaching education, sport science, mental fitness, nutrition and much more.” says Angione.

With women’s basketball on the rise in Canada and Ontario it is important to cater to female athletes just as much as the male. “It’s is so exciting to see a number of young athletes choosing to play and pursue basketball over other sports,” mentions Angione. Coach Angione is especially proud of Lauren Donovan who played for the London Ramblers and represented Team Ontario, the Cadette National team and the Junior National team last year.

The Southwest Academy is committed to providing our athletes with a world class experience and doing everything possible to help their athletes realize their potential and achieve their ultimate goals.
