This will be Vaughan Secondary Schools first year with the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association. Vaughan S.S. has been dominating in the York Region as they had a league record of 14-0, making them York Region Champions for 8 consecutive years.

Head Coach, Gus Gymnopoulos, explains that his staff and athletes are excited to join in on the OSBA. The decision was made to participate this year by Gymnopoulos, “We decided to get involved with the OSBA because we feel it has quickly become the top high school league.”

Happy with the team, outline and goals of the OSBA, Gymnopoulos is excited that there is an elite system that helps to push the sport of basketball within the province.

“Many of our athletes are trying to achieve goals playing basketball at the next level,” says Gymnopoulos, “We feel that the OSBA will better prepare them for their future because they offer competition we can’t find in regular high school basketball. They’ve created a model for student athletes to focus on both school and basketball.”

Looking forward to getting the season started, Gymnopoulos has set some goals for his program. First and foremost, development of the players physically and mentally is always a first priority. The Vaughan S.S team also wants to expand their travel schedule outside of Canada to gain more experience. With help from the OSBA, opportunities arise for growth for coaches and most importantly athletes, to become more prepared for the next level of basketball and academic careers.
